One of the things I love about the 4th of July, besides the pretty firework shows, are the great parties! Luckily, this year the 4th of July lands on a Saturday so it will be perfect to bring your friends and neighborhood together for a great time!
I made this list will help you get organized in throwing a great block party (or smaller scaled party) without a hitch.
INVITATIONS - You will want to send your invitations either by dropping it in the mailbox, or getting up close and personal with your neighbors and hand deliver them to their front door in person. You should be able to go to a local store and find 8 1/2 x 11 paper with flags, fireworks or a red/white/blue theme and get them out to your guest list in a red envelope. You can probably find something online or make it yourself and just print them out or email them.
Be sure to note on the invitation that dress will be casual, the type food you will be serving, and if you would like for your guests to bring something. You can even refer them to the site
DECORATIONS – For starters, you can line your driveway with little American flags so people will know where the party is.
Get patriotic tablecloths and table accessories. Here’s a previous article on how to make a fun 4th of July table setting. (link)
FOOD - Our menu is vast and foods can vary but hamburgers and hot dogs along with potato salad, baked beans would be an acceptable menu for your Fourth of July party. Check out our list of tasty recipes that you can use. (link)
Also, you don’t have to make all the food yourself, ask some of your neighbors/friends to bring a little something. If your guests would like to bring something, don’t be afraid to say, “Yes, thank you!” Make it easy on them… tell them about our site
ACTIVITIES
Make homemade cheesecake, and hold a cheesecake tasting contest. Tell your guests they can bring their recipes and ingredients (we have some great cheesecakes here) give the winning team a door prize.
Make a horseshoe pit and play horseshoes.
Play an old standard game like Freeze Tag or TV Tag –with the adults and children. I remember playing these kinds of games in teams with adults vs. children, those were some good times!
Fireworks – BE SAFE. We want to make sure we’re having fun without hurting ourselves or anyone else, right? They can be dangerous if not done properly, DON’T break any local rules for your own firework display.
GOODY BAGS - You may want to go to a party supply store and get some party favors – postcards of an American flag, patriotic pens or pencils, cheap sunglasses, red/white/blue bandanas stuff that the kiddies would like.
If you follow these steps, you’re well on your way to making an awesome 4th of July to remember. Great food and great people always make for great memories, so have fun and be safe out there this weekend!
