It’s hot, humid and it feels appropriate to treat yourself to an ice cream cone today. Not only that, but the frozen dessert actually has its own special holiday! Happy Ice Cream Cone Day! Go out and enjoy some ice cream served on a cone. If you want to be a true ice cream trooper, try making your own ice cream from scratch. It’s really not that difficult if you follow this Strawberry Freeze recipe.

Did you know that a man from St. Louis, Missouri, named Charles E. Minches invented the ice cream cone? Well now you do! I bet you also didn’t know that on July 23, 1904 at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, he filled a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream to make the first ice cream cone. There has been some speculation that another man named Italo Marchiony in New York City first patented the ice cream cone a few months prior to the Word’s Fair. Technically, what Marchiony made wasn’t ‘ice cream.’ Marchiony has been selling lemon ice in cones as early as 1896.
