PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese is not only concerned about making awesome-tasting cream cheese products, they’re also concerned about protecting the environment. Recently, PHILLY has continued their green efforts by partaking in sustainable and eco-friendly business practices. For example, PHILLY has installed anaerobic digesters in their Lowville, New York plant to convert the waste stream from cream cheese production (whey) into methane gas. In other words, it replaces about 30% of natural gas usage and eliminates virtually 100% of whey land-spreading. If you look at the big picture, over a course of just one year, PHILLY is saving approximately 87,000 mmBTUs (one million British Thermal Units) of energy. That’s enough energy to heat around 1,100 average sized households for 1 year!
It’s a great feeling to know that PHILLY is doing more to expand their green efforts! Thanks PHILLY!
